Whether you live in Moka or are only passing through, you will surely appreciate the region in exclusive ways.

Here are five ideas of outings to fully enjoy your surroundings:

1. Fancy a jog with friends ?

If you haven’t already, you absolutely have to plan a hike on Le Pouce mountain, along with a few friends.

Book your morning, as reaching the summit from Moka should take you about an hour, a little less on the way down.
Take the time to stop for a snack at mid-way: you will enjoy an incomparable view of the North coast of Mauritius, as well as its capital city, Port-Louis. Le Pouce is the third highest mountain on the island.

2. Treat yourself for a chill afternoon.

If you enjoy history and nature, then Eureka, la Maison Creole is the place for you. This historical residence, built during the colonial era, has now been turned into a museum.

It has the added benefit of being surrounded by nature: a little dirt track will lead you straight to a river and a waterfall. During the visit, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself into the everyday life of the former inhabitants of this castle. You will then be served a creole lunch under the veranda, before taking a relaxing walk by the water.

3. How about a taste of authentic cuisine?

Let yourself be tempted by a culinary journey at L’Escale Creole!

Snuggly nestled in a beautiful tropical garden in Moka, this charming restaurant has only “vre manze lakaz” (genuine home-made dishes) on the menu. Sausage rougail, chicken curry, deer civet… the choice is yours! Authenticity and generosity are the leading values of this family-run restaurant that depicts the Mauritian art-de-vivre.

4. Time for drinks at In Vino!

In Vino welcomes all aficionados of good wines in an old colonial mansion turned into cellar for wine tasting sessions, champagne and various liquors.

In Vino also hosts thematic evenings comprising rare varieties of cheeses, meats, or oysters, as well as live music. The place provides for a warm and cozy atmosphere, especially sought after in winter, when the temperatures start to drop… yet another location to explore!

5. Discover Moka by foot.

If you merely wish to take a walk around town, don’t hesitate to stop by the Shell service station in Saint Pierre. Opposite the station, you will see an enchanting mural on the exterior façade of Vivéa Business Park.

It was painted by the area’s schoolchildren during the first edition of The Moka Art Festival. Selfies and instagram stories featuring the mural are highly encouraged to promote art in all its forms!
