According to the French author, Marcel Pagnol, “When the wine is poured, you have to drink it, especially if it’s good.” For thousands of years, this invigorating beverage has been connecting people over meals and parties. It brings them closer together around a key aspect of culture: gastronomy. We met with the unusual wine merchants from Eastern Trading, who have continued the trade from generation to generation.

Jean-Pierre Lenoir proudly represents the second generation of wine merchants. His working philosophy is, “I will always be a wine merchant because I cherish the fundamental values of the trade, respect and honesty. First of all, for the product when tasting and gauging it, but also for the opportunities to meet with the people without whom these superb wines would never have existed. I am happy to see that my son also shares these values.”

How to celebrate 70 years in business?

Eastern Trading has decided to enhance its positioning! The company, which was previously known to consumers as 1952 and to businesses as Eastern Trading, has undertaken a rebranding exercise. “We now have a single brand name, Eastern Trading, which gives businesses, wine and food lovers of all kinds access to an extensive selection of wine and fine food,” says the Marketing and Stores Manager, Anaïs Fabre Nicolini.

The first wine shop in Moka

It has already been five years since the wine merchant moved to Moka! A natural choice because Eastern Trading and the city share a core value: the quality of life. “Many large cities in Mauritius are too fast-paced. In Moka, and even at Vivéa Business Park, there are people who take the time to stroll around during their lunch break to discover the surroundings and enjoy an essential experience of time passing by slowly,” says Jean-Pierre Lenoir. This value adds to the city’s relaxing natural setting, making it a place that supports a balanced lifestyle.

The next logical step was to share Eastern Trading’s beautiful selection with as many people as possible, starting in Moka! That is how the partnership started with Oficea and Moka, City of Culture for the Jam Apre travay events. By sharing the pleasures of the palate, the wine merchant contributes to a pleasant moment of cultural discovery while getting closer to the people of Moka.

Their passion and values are what makes their wine shop a must-stop in the region!
