A major event in the Mauritian sports calendar, the 6th edition of the Moka Trail hit the heights again. We were at the finish line to cheer on the runners – and glean a few bits of information for our story.

Ready, set, go!

The sky was a perfect blue on Saturday 13 October when the 1,900 valiant participants set off on the trails winding through the central part of the island. As for last year’s edition, three races were on the card: the 6km Fun Jog, 15km Petit Both and 30km Grand Pouce. There was really something for every runner!

Throughout the race, we kept one close eye on the stopwatch while the other was watching the runners. There were muscles in action, streams of sweat pouring down faces and above all, plenty of smiles! We also witnessed a wealth of generational and cultural diversity, which makes the Moka Trail so enjoyable.

There is no doubt that this fun and friendly wellness event was a true success this year. “We are delighted to see the growing public interest and tremendous atmosphere that surrounds the only trail event taking place in the centre of the island every year,” said the Race Director, Simon Desvaux. “We look forward to seeing you again next year for new achievements and even more thrilling moments!”

A pack of happy trail runners

Performance-wise, Anne-Cécile Delchini cruised home first in the women’s 30km race in 3 hours 52 minutes and 32 seconds. Jean-Marie Cadet took out the men’s race in a time of 3 hours 2 minutes and 4 seconds. Congratulations to both our winners!

These two top athletes were not the only winners of the 2018 Moka Trail; all participants were able to enjoy 100% natural coconut water on arrival, an ideal drink to rehydrate. They also received a race pack containing an energy drink, a cereal bar and a branded Moka Tail T-shirt.

This year again, there was a dedicated Kids Corner to allow parents to enjoy their race with total peace of mind while their little ones were having fun under the watchful and caring eye of a qualified staff.

Moka, an environmentally aware city

The centre of the island is a beautiful outdoor playground for sports enthusiasts. Let’s make the most of it! Developed by the ENL Group, the Moka Smart City places living in harmony with Nature at the core of its philosophy – and the setting is just perfect!

The Moka Trail is an annual event that is fully aligned with this vision, allowing people to reconnect with their environment. Looking beyond the sporting results, the paths travelled and the positive atmosphere throughout the race are what makes the event a memorable experience.
