 Dear fellow citizens of Moka,
IT'S AN HONOUR TO ONCE AGAIN ADDRESS YOU FOR THIS FOURTH EDITION OF MOKAZINE.
With a renewed sense of proximity and togetherness, following the return to normal activities post-COVID, the theme for this year is a welcome breath of fresh air. The District Council is committed to promoting the sports and cultural development of all the people in the region, and that is why we are striving for continuous improvement in each locality.
To date, we have renovated and created at least 9 recreation centres,
12 sub-halls, 33 children’s playgrounds, 17 gyms, including one at regional level, and 6 fitness trails to bring families together in a relaxed setting that is conducive to physical activity. These include a well-lit fitness trail in
La Laura for the safety of walkers, and two others in Nouvelle Découverte and Camp Thorel. For the inter-town and village games, the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex will also host, on 27 November 2022, a family day in a spirit of sharing and fun.
We attach great importance to creating a culture that values well-being while continuing our citizen initiatives against pollution by motorists using public roadways. This campaign is also part of maintaining a healthy and pleasant living environment for you, dear citizens. Since the launch of this campaign in 2017, the amount of waste littering our road landscape has dropped by around 30%.
Environmental well-being and conservation are values we fully share with Moka Smart City, and we are happy to promote them to preserve together the beautiful quality of life offered by our district.
Sudhirchandra Mahesh Kumar Soonarane (MSK) Chairman, Moka District Council

 Round four, here we go!
AFTER SHOWCASING OUR MOBILITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES, AS WELL AS THE URBAN PLANNING PRINCIPLES LYING BEHIND THE DEVELOPMENT
OF TELFAIR, THE FUTURE CITY CENTRE OF MOKA, IN THIS FOURTH EDITION, WE ARE SHIFTING
OUR FOCUS TO CULTURE IN THE CITY.
In our feature story, we take a wide-angle view of how the cultural programmes are created and the objectives set out by Moka Smart City.
We believe that a city has to be built with and around its inhabitants; this is why we bring Moka to life through the citizen collective, Moka’mwad. The DNA of a city also lies in the arts and cultural wealth it has to offer.
As you are certainly aware, Mokazine is a complimentary magazine intended to allow the people of Moka and the surroundings to rediscover the diversity and vitality of the city. Thus, 17,000 copies are distributed free of charge in the area’s hotspots as well as directly to homes in Moka and the surrounding villages to reach the largest readership. In this new issue, you will find the latest information about major projects, significant past and future urban developments, important events in the area or community life as well as the views
of the locals.
Have a good read.
And connect with us on our social media platforms to share your views with us.
