Metennkoste and Oficea have turned 800m2 of office space at The Factory into a temporary art gallery from 18 to 28 October 2021. This Pop-Up Art Gallery presented an opportunity for 20 artists to display their work. Elsewhere at Vivéa Business Park, Jam Apre Travay musical events took place at Zakadi with artists such as Lion Klash and Lucky Monkey.
The exhibition, Zom Res Zom? at the Telfair Amphitheatre was a documentary project resulting from fieldwork conducted in 2021 by the Médium collective – Karl Ahnee, Stéphane Huët, David Rogers and Mathieu Pigeot – around the concept
of masculinity. Their multidisciplinary work combined photo posters displayed in the streets and audio interviews. “Hundreds of passers-by scanned
the QR code to access the online content, showing the interest generated by the exhibition,” says Mathieu Pigeot.
In late January, Moka followed up with The Art
Vault Takeover: Pieces from the Arte Laguna.
This complimentary public event supported by Oficea brought together major works by local and foreign artists exhibited at the Arte Laguna Prize.
In April, Evan Sohun kicked off the city’s Street Art programme with a mural on the wall of the former Balliol College. Since then, various large-scale murals have been completed and eight artists have begun or completed residencies.
The Salon de Mai then showcased various artists, students and teachers from the MGI (read more about the event on page 42!). Mélanie Pérès also chose
the Piazza in Moka to launch her album, Mama Difé
in an intimate setting – and online.
The first Art Talk workshops took place in
September 2022 as part of the Rezidan project with art, painting, embroidery and sewing classes. Stay tuned for these events that are now monthly features!
