“Telfair creates a dialogue between buildings, streets and people.” Nathan Iyer
Nathan Iyer, the architect and designer of Telfair, shares his vision for the future of the city centre of Moka.
What is the central feature of your concept?
Telfair will be the vibrant and lively heart of the smart city. The focus has therefore been on designing spaces that encourage public life and interaction, with a dialogue between buildings and streets.
Does the location live up to this ambition?
Yes, it does! Telfair is in the middle of Moka and is connected to developing infrastructure, including the A7 road and Saint Pierre Bypass Road. It is a great place to build a vibrant, tight-knit community. It will ultimately be a hub for the entire region.
What is your view on Telfair post-COVID-19?
COVID-19 highlighted the shortcomings of our daily infrastructure, especially in terms of mobility and housing (ageing, overcrowded, etc.). However, Moka and Telfair are breakthroughs in creating sustainable places, focused on people and their well-being. Mauritius is demonstrating a more sustainable plan for the future, capable of addressing the urban crisis on a global scale.

Setting the course
for 2024
Four Oficea commercial buildings overlooking
La Promenade and a first residential block of
60 apartments that is already sold out are under construction in the east of Telfair. They are due to be completed by late 2023 for the former and 2024 for the latter. A turning point for Telfair! “This project, the selection of commercial operators and the launch of cultural activities will make Telfair a 24/7 destination, a true city centre for Moka,” says ENL Property's Head
of Sales, Sébastien de Robillard. In addition, infrastructure work was completed in the western part of the city centre this year, allowing the first buyers to start building their offices.
A huge underground parking facility under construction
The parking area will serve the four Oficea buildings and La Promenade. Located in a 10,000m2 basement (larger than a soccer field), Telfair’s huge underground parking area will accommodate 350 vehicles. This should free up living space for city dwellers! Work is due to be completed by late 2023.
