A sports library? Only in Moka!

A sports library? Only in Moka!

What if we told you that you could play sport outdoors, for free, with quality equipment and no complicated sign-up process? That’s now a reality in Moka, thanks to a brilliant initiative by the Moka’mwad citizen collective, in partnership with Decathlon Mauritius and KFC.

The concept? A “sports library” based at the Telfair Amphitheatre, where children and adults alike can borrow sports gear just like they would borrow a book. And yes, you read that right! No novels or comics here, just footballs and goals, badminton racquets and nets, spikeball kits, and volleyballs and nets, all available free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

Sport as a social connector

Sport isn’t just about sweating or scoring points. It’s also about sharing, collaborating, pushing your limits and connecting with others. As Ketty Lim Ka Lan, Manager of the Moka’mwad collective, explains: “Through the sports library, we want to give everyone the chance to enjoy outdoor activities, meet new people, and build a stronger, more inclusive community.”

The initiative reflects a wider vision for Moka: an active, welcoming city where everyone can thrive.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the support of partners who share its values. Decathlon Mauritius provided high-quality sports equipment, while KFC offered essential logistical support.
