In 2025, Telfair’s city centre became the first neighbourhood in Africa to receive LEED-ND certification. This prestigious American standard is one of the toughest worldwide, awarded to only 49 neighbourhoods in the world.

Nature at the heart of the city

Nature at the heart of the city

In Moka, nature grows with the city. 24,000 trees have been planted to enhance the environment and quality of life. This commitment earned Moka the Tree City of the World title, a first in Mauritius and only the second in Africa. Every year, locals come together for Arbor Day, a fun and meaningful way to green the city together.

Recycling is a shared habit

Water, a precious resource

Water is a precious resource

Moka has implemented practical solutions for smarter water management. In Telfair, a 2,600 m³ retention pond and a wastewater treatment plant allow water to be reused for irrigation and public space maintenance.

To reduce plastic use, 4 drinking fountains are available throughout the city. Refilling your bottle is now simple, convenient, and planet-friendly.

Moka uses simple, effective technology to lower its energy footprint:

Smart meters

installed in every residential and commercial property to monitor and adjust consumption in real time

A solar farm

that will produce, at term, enough energy to power all shared spaces

Smart solar streetlights

that light the way without wasting energy

Did you know?

In Telfair, Moka has allocated 20,000 m² for a Climate Hub. Located across from the city centre along St Pierre Bypass, this space includes two key infrastructures: a wastewater treatment station and a 2 MW solar farm.
