Moka Smart City has obtained on 4 May 2020 the approval of the Economic Development Board (EDB) to double its surface area – confirming its ambition to transform the heart of the island into a truly smart and liveable city. Here’s some insight into the second phase of its development, which looks promising!

Building on the success of its first phase, Moka Smart City is looking to the future. The EDB has recently issued official certification allowing the development to double its land area by 500 acres and the ENL Property team already has a number of projects in mind. The aim is to boost the economy of the region and country through a series of ambitious projects. This promises to inject new dynamism to recovery for all!

Moka, a thriving city

For this second phase, ENL Property is committed to upholding its four core pillars: making optimum use of our resources; offering an improved quality of life; fostering citizen engagement and creating real economic opportunities for all. The development of the second phase of the smart city will therefore focus on high value-added projects to improve the area’s attractiveness.

These will include the development of a new mixed-use neighbourhood along M3 motorway at L’Avenir; the expansion of the Vivéa Business Park; infrastructure development at Telfair, Moka’s future city centre; and the initial stages of development of the Moka Park. In terms of leisure activities, Moka is pursuing its vision to create a park in the heart of the city and a new major sports centre to encourage residents of the region to take time for themselves, exercise and share pleasant outdoor experiences.

“This certification testifies to the trust our partners and the relevant authorities have in Moka Smart City – and we thank them for that. We are preparing for a dynamic recovery and are confident that these developments will boost the economy of the region and country by attracting new clients, partners, investors and businesses,” says Moka Smart City’s General Manager, Samuel de Gersigny.

Moka Smart City, the region’s economic driver

Since the early 2000s, Moka has been driven by the forward-looking vision of ENL Property: offering integrated development to the people living and working in the region through a natural combination of live-work-play.

Moka already has a significant lead and has used the introduction of the Smart City Scheme as well as its certification in 2017 to step up its development. It already offers a full range of services, from shops, offices and showrooms to schools, universities, hospitals and sports centres, supplemented by high-quality housing developments.

With more than 1,000 arpents under development, Moka solidifies its place as a leading smart city in the country. This new extension will confirm its role as a key economic driver for the region and country as well as its leadership position, extending its influence in Mauritius and abroad.
