A wealth of good music will be offered to the people of Moka throughout the month of April. The schedule of events kick-started with a live streaming by Mélanie Pérès on 25 March 2022, ahead of a month of April that promises to be vibrant!

Moka is committed to promoting culture and supporting local talent. The smart city has a great musical programme in store for you in the coming weeks. It aims to provide a platform for our artists to express themselves in an effort to bring all-day cultural events to the city to the delight of its daily users and residents!

Moka’s Arts & Culture Manager, Mathieu Pigeot shares his vision with us, “Culture and art have a real role to play in the development of a city and its community. With that in mind, we want to create experiences to enrich the lives of the people of Moka, including hosting events, providing venues for artists and supporting cultural stakeholders. All ideas are welcome to enliven the city!”

Let’s take a look at the events calendar!

Launch of Mélanie Pérès’ new album, Mama Difé at Vivéa Business Park (25 March)

A few days ago, the multi-talented artist, Mélanie Pérès gave us an exclusive taste of her new album, Mama Difé, through a live streaming from La Piazza, in the heart of Vivéa Business Park. The place was transformed for the occasion with the same décor as her musical play, Tigann.

Yann Charlotte from Made in Moris also spoke with the artist about the professionalisation of the music sector in Mauritius and the labelling process set up by this platform.

This first collaboration aims at strengthening the link between Moka Smart City and the local music scene by giving a renowned singer-songwriter endorsed by “Made in Moris” a space to express herself. Mélanie’s album pays a vibrant tribute to women and their reality around a transgenerational music experience that expertly combines musical instruments of yesteryear with the sounds of today.

Mama Jaz (throughout the month of April)

Mama Jaz promises a full month of jazz for the seventh consecutive year! It has become a true national creative movement, inviting artists from around the world to perform and local creators to open up a dialogue around music.

For the first time this year, Moka is a proud sponsor of this major event. The smart city is supporting the Sonic Meditations – musical moments during which jazz artists play unplugged every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the charming setting of Le Pouce Mountain throughout the month of April. Some of these meditations, which are an invitation to share positive energy, will be streamed live on Facebook.

“We want to send out a strong message through these active sound meditations that cleverly complement the Mama Jaz month,” says the organiser of this major musical event in Mauritius, Gavin Poonoosamy. “Le Pouce has a positive connotation and the idea of linking the mountain with a wonderful musical energy promises to be magical.”
