Confinement doesn’t necessarily mean giving in to boredom and slackness! Here are some activities to enable you to have a pleasant time while staying at home.

Stay active, stay healthy

The temporary closing of sports facilities doesn’t mean we have to give up working out. A good Internet connection (and a little motivation) is enough to remain active. The videos posted by coaches from Moka Rangers Sports Club and Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute on their respective Facebook pages give you access to training programmes and practical advice every day. The beat of lively, energetic music also sets a fun and friendly mood for coach Lekh Benjamin’s online Zumba classes (available on Facebook too)!

Polish up your cooking skills

What could be better than indulging yourself with a home-made dish? Take advantage of the confinement to spend more time in the kitchen – to try out new recipes, revise the “classics” or unleash your creativity. Especially since cooking can be a fun experience to share with your children or loved one. To keep you entertained during this confinement period, the crew of Fer Goute, a cooking show broadcast on MBC 2, shares some tasty local dishes at regular intervals on their Facebook page. A great place to look for some inspiration!

Reading as a getaway

Escape through reading during this time of lockdown! Not just the books stacked on your shelves but also the countless e-books available on the Internet. The good news for reading buffs is that the famous French chain of retail stores, FNAC is giving you access to over 500 e-books free of charge. So grab your smartphone, computer, tablet or e-reader and enjoy the reading: there’s something for everyone!

Soothe your mind

The current situation can be a source of anxiety and we must take the time to calm down and regain focus. Yoga can help you achieve this: the live sessions offered every morning (except on Sundays) by Yogathering Mauritius’ certified teacher will help release your stress and reconnect with yourself. Ideal for a smooth and pleasant start to your day!

Laughter is an essential service

It is important to keep laughing in these times of confinement! Humour is a key ingredient to stay healthy, bringing our stress level down and our energy up as well as contributing greatly to our well-being. To help take our minds off these challenging times, the famous local comedy troupe led by Miselaine Duval, Komiko continues to delight audiences online! Give your mood a boost by visiting their official Facebook page to get regular video posts: you’re in for a good dose of laughter!

Looking after yourself

Think about visiting Medicine.mu instead of unnecessarily going out to medical facilities. This new tool allows you to get diagnosed without leaving the comforts of your home! The volunteer Mauritian doctors on the platform are available 24/7.

People who need a listening ear can also use the remote telephone assistance provided by the Mauritius Red Cross: just dial 5797 0095 to talk in strict confidentiality and get proper advice.
