What if we built our city together?

In Moka, we believe the best ideas come from the people who live the city every day. Moka’mwad is the voice of the citizens, a space to dream, propose, build… and make real change happen together.

What is Moka’mwad?

What is Moka’mwad?

Moka’mwad is a citizen collective born from a simple belief: the city of tomorrow should be imagined and built together.

A citizen collective is a group of people who choose to get involved, in their own way, in the life of their neighbourhood or city. By sharing their ideas, skills or time, they help bring meaningful, community-driven projects to life.

Thanks to Moka’mwad, every citizen can be an active part of the city and:

  • Propose an idea
  • Launch a local initiative
  • Take part in ongoing projects

Better together

In Moka, we’re convinced that what truly brings a city to life is the connection between its people. Neighbourhood parties, volunteering at events, outdoor fitness classes at the amphitheatre, solidarity actions… these moments create opportunities to meet, share and build real local bonds.

“Since I started working with the citizen collective, I’ve witnessed some beautiful stories. New friendships, incredibly committed volunteers, and simple ideas that turned into real initiatives. What motivates me every day is seeing how the collective brings people together. It really is better together.”– Ketty Lim Ka Lan, manager of Moka’mwad citizen collective

A city told by its kamwad

Moka’mwad supports local initiatives by helping bring them to life: lending equipment, offering access to the La Kocotte Moka’mwad space, connecting you with our network of committed partners, or helping you promote your project.

It’s a helping hand to turn good ideas into reality – and grow citizen engagement in Moka, together.

For World Health Day, we offered free health screenings but above all, it was a time to connect, listen and raise awareness. Because health isn’t just about treatment, it’s also about prevention and support.

Moka’pav sov enn lavi goes far beyond technical training. It helps build a culture of solidarity and mutual aid, because in a more human city, everyone should be able to reach out to others when it matters.

Through Moka’mwad, we’ve carried out practical awareness campaigns around sexual health. These helped raise awareness of essential topics among Mokassiens, while breaking taboos and encouraging open dialogue.

My family and I have lived in Helvetia for two years. I helped organise our neighbourhood party, which really brings people together and encourages exchange. Since then, I’ve met so many passionate and committed people – I love that human connection.

I’ve been a volunteer at Moka Trail since the fifth edition. Around forty of us gather every year – it’s a bit like a family reunion, with a great atmosphere. Honestly, we probably have even more fun than the runners (laughs).
