An ambitious project with ambitious measures

It is no easy task to launch a project the size of a city centre even if Moka is familiar with large-scale developments. The smart city team came up with the idea of designing a brochure in a pop-up format, which is the first ever in Mauritius. The aim is to encourage everyone to immediately take ownership of Telfair and build on the essence of this future neighbourhood with a visionary approach and its advantages. Such expertise is not available locally and Moka chose to call upon the paper engineering expertise of Papersmyths to make the idea happen.

The UK firm’s Paper Engineer, Iain Smyths is very enthusiastic about this collaboration. “This kind of mechanism is a great idea to add fun and interaction to a brochure while giving readers a better view of the future project,” he says. It is designed as a map of the city and encourages exploration with pull-tabs, flaps, a spinning wheel and buildings that come to life to the delight of readers!

This pop-up brochure gives a first-hand glimpse of what the city centre will look like and helps visualise its commitments, such as putting pedestrians at the core of its urban planning strategy or fostering a homogeneous and harmonious architecture. Finally, it provides the opportunity to discover how Telfair connects to the other areas of Moka and La Promenade as well as imagine the exciting lifestyle of this next-generation city centre!

A successful partnership

The brochure accurately reflects the appearance of the future pulsing heart of Moka Smart City and Papersmyths’ expertise has enabled the development of local skills. The project was carried out in collaboration with teams from the Evolution agency and the IPC printing house. “I think it is a first in Mauritius and we are proud to have been the pioneers in such production, especially through the ENL team and their innovative ideas,” says the latter’s Director, Michel Coquet.

The brochure was produced by making full use of new technologies. “We have been able to pass on our know-how to the project teams in Mauritius through e-meetings, WeTransfer and tutorial videos shot here in England. Their availability and motivation contributed to make the project a successful partnership! We also really enjoyed working with Moka’s creative team, who provided us with some excellent architectural drawings of the city, which were used as the basis for this project,” says Iain Smyths.

The result is a 3D brochure with a V-fold that uses numbering mechanisms to successively display the contents of each window, and finally flap mechanisms to present more detailed information in a fun way. A real attraction in itself!

This novel communication tool with a fresh, childlike feel is attached to the Telfair brochure and is available at the Moka Showroom. It symbolises Moka’s commitment to create a vibrant and authentic quality of life in Telfair. This ambitious project is unprecedented in Mauritius and promises to become the catalyst for Moka Smart City!
