This year’s edition of the Moka Trail on 5 October was marked by the courage and good spirit of participants. Despite difficult weather conditions, more than 2,000 runners took part in the four courses. The Moka Trail remains above all an event promoting citizenship through emphasising human, sporting and environmental values.

Moka Smart City is particularly proud to host such a unifying event with a spirit of friendliness and strong family ties. The extraordinary solidarity demonstrated by the participants on the muddy paths of the different routes perfectly symbolises the Mauritian way of living together. Beyond the time taken in the races, the runners have shown that what matters most is the distance covered together.

The organisers were full of praise for the attitude displayed by participants and want to meet their expectations even better for the next edition.

“Based on the feedback received from participants in the new Deux Mamelles course, we will cap this 7km race to only 450 runners next year in order to allow trail enthusiasts to enjoy this beautiful technical course in the open. We will also reintroduce the historic 5km Fun Jog for those who want to take a family adventure,” says Moka Smart City’s Head of Marketing, Mikael Le Luron.

And the winners are…

The first man to cross the finish stripe of the 28km Grand Pouce was Christian Mosa in 2hrs59min2sec and in the women’s category, Léa Cavelier took the top step of the podium in 4hrs07min46sec. Zoé Thomas and Mélina Graziella Buckingham won the 14km Petit Both in 1hr18min11sec and 1hr58min57sec respectively. Alicia Staub outpaced her opponents in the women’s 7km Deux Mamelles course in 52min28sec while Arun Ghunasham finished the race first in the men’s category in 38min47sec. Malo Marchyllie and Lily Bertrand were the first winners of the Kids Fun Run, a new 3.5km course, in 15min02sec and 17min24sec respectively. Well done to them all! View all results.

Moka, a city that brings out the athlete in you!

Since its inception in 2013, the Moka Trail has been dedicated to offering a unique experience along the most beautiful trails in the heart of the island. This sporting event also contributes to the city’s commitment to promoting sport and making it more accessible to all Mauritian people.

“Moka provides the public with a wide range of activities and facilities to confirm its positioning as a sports city,” says the Moka Brand Manager, Raphaëlle Lamusse. “The Moka Trail, but also the Moka Tennis Open, the Puma Night Run Moka and the Moka Open-Air Cinema are sporting and cultural events for all that also contribute to keeping the smart city alive all year round, and that is exactly what we aim to achieve,” she adds. There’s no time to get bored in Moka!

The Moka Trail improves its green footprint

The Moka Trail has taken its eco-friendly commitment further this year. The same cups as for the previous edition were used at the feed stations to provide refreshments to runners instead of single-use ones. Meals were also served on sugarcane bagasse fibre plates (with bamboo cutlery) and participants were offered a camel bag to reduce the number of plastic bottles.

Finally, the Moka Trail hosted Foodwise, an NGO combating food waste in Mauritius. Its representatives attended the event to raise public awareness about the issue of waste as well as collect surplus meals for distribution to associations in the region.
