From the April 13th to 28th, Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute will host the very first edition of the Moka Tennis Open (MTO). Organised by Moka Smart City in collaboration with the Mauritius Tennis Federation, this initiative adds up to the wide range of sports and entertainment offered in the region. Here are the answers to five questions you might ask yourselves about the tournament.

Who can participate?

The tournament is open to all players, irrespective of their categories. In men’s and women’s Singles, the tournament will extend from U08 to Veterans. In men’s and women’s Doubles, the MTO will admit players of the Junior, Senior and Veteran categories. Mixed Doubles will be limited to the Senior and Veteran categories.

The competition will give special attention to younger players. A full-day Mini-Tennis is planned for children aged between 6 and 10. This first edition will also serve a social purpose. With the support of the ENL Foundation, 40 children from the underprivileged areas of Alma, Telfair, Sainte Catherine and Railway Square will benefit from an initiating session. On April 27th, they will be trained by professional coaches on the courts of Synergy Sport & Wellness Institute.

Why Moka?

This competition is in line with the vision of Moka Smart City to provide a broader and richer range of sports and recreational activities in the region. “For the past ten years, Moka has developed around an integrated masterplan and the vision of LIVE | WORK | PLAY | CARE. We aim at creating local high-quality events with a national scope and open to all,” explains Mikaël Le Luron, Head of Marketing at ENL Property. The tournament will bring more enlivenment in the city of Moka.   As a unifying event, it also aims to encourage the practice of sport among locals and Mauritians in general.

What is special about this tournament?

Unlike other tournaments, games for the U08 and U10 categories will be arbitrated by an outsider. In normal condition, young players has to arbitrate their own matches. Starting from this first edition, the MTO is investing in professional umpiring so that the young players can focus on their game and learn to compete in real conditions.

When will the matches take place?

Matches are scheduled on the weekends of  April 13th to 28th, excluding Easter Sunday and Monday. However, if a match is suspended due to bad weather, it can be rescheduled  on those dates. The competition for disabled players will take place during the last week of the tournament.

Sponsored by the collective Moka’mwad, the Mini-Tennis tournament will be held on Saturday 27th April.
