The Pod, the first office development project of the Moka Smart City is under way at Vivéa Business Park!

For that purpose, the shed of the former Moka sugar factory will be converted into office space. The offering of the business park will be expanded through creating 4,900m² of office space and meeting rooms as well as a cafeteria open to the public. Construction work to the tune of Rs 240 million has started in December 2016 and The Pod is expected to be operational in mid-2018.

Modular office space will be available for rental from 60m² in this new development that is suitable for start-ups as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. The Pod will be located on the premises of the last of the three sheds of the former sugar factory with a view of a beautifully landscaped common area, the Piazza. The other two sheds – 1827 and The Factory – have also been converted into work spaces and already cater to a diverse tenant mix. Vivéa Business Park accommodates a total of some 40 companies in various sectors ranging from ICT to architecture, construction and financial services, with more than a thousand people working there on a daily basis.

The business park is the result of the successful conversion of the Moka sugar factory and is well integrated into the Smart City. Road connectivity is a key advantage for companies. The Moka region is strategically located between the country’s two motorways and enjoys an extensive road network with easy access to the Saint Pierre Bypass Road, which ensures a fluid traffic flow. With the opening of the Terre Rouge-Verdun-Ebene Link Road in 2013, Moka has definitely positioned itself as the heart of Mauritius.

Coming from the North, it now takes less time to reach Moka than Port Louis. A number of companies have been quick to recognize the potential of Moka’s strategic location at the crossroads of the country’s main conurbations and have taken advantage of the facilities available in the region.

Various features including the old factory buildings, well-preserved green spaces and age-old trees as well as the continued weighing and analysis of raw cane lend a distinctive historic character to the place. Occupants also enjoy access to existing facilities available within close proximity such as shopping and sports centres, or even schools. Fibre optic cabling installations contribute to providing a stimulating environment for the growth of businesses that choose to move to Moka.
