Moka Smart City ensures uninterrupted connectivity for businesses, addressing a key issue for companies. How? We explain everything!

Whether it’s a multinational or a startup, a fast, constant, and high-quality internet connection is indispensable. It ensures business continuity, increases productivity, improves communication, and provides access to international markets.

The only downside: in most cities in Mauritius, the fibre optic network runs through a single physical network. If it were damaged, connectivity would be interrupted… but don’t panic! Moka Smart City has found a way to minimize this risk by offering businesses access to a redundant physical fibre optic network, covering the entire smart city.

“Connectivity is one of the pillars of Moka Smart City, and rightfully so: it ensures business continuity for companies in the region. It also forms an integral part of their digitalization strategy. The city has therefore implemented this redundant network to establish continuous connectivity, but also to create a competitive ecosystem where businesses benefit from the services of various operators,” explains Sneid Ramasawmy, Head of Technology at Moka Smart City.

Businesses will also be able to explore new opportunities, “notably being able to deploy 5G applications, which was previously complicated due to insufficiently fast telecommunications,” he adds.

How does redundant fibre optic work?

The redundant fibre optic network involves multiple operators. The operators’ cables follow different routes (not physically in the same locations). If one cable is damaged, the connection is then maintained by other internet operators. This system aims to eliminate service interruptions and ensure reliable connectivity, which is essential for stimulating the region’s economic growth.

5G, available in most neighbourhoods of Moka

Telfair, Vivéa, and L'Avenir, the neighbourhoods housing business parks, are already equipped with 5G. The goal remains to extend 5G coverage to the entire city so that residential areas can also benefit from this high-speed telecommunication. This is a significant advantage for gamers passionate about international competitions, as well as for residents working from home.

Why use optic fibre as well as 5G?

Using a fixed technology (fibre optic) in addition to a mobile technology (5G) is essential, as they don’t offer the same possibilities. On one hand, fibre provides homes and businesses with a stable, very high-speed connection via glass fibre cables. On the other hand, 5G is indispensable for continuous connection during mobile use. Together, they ensure optimal internet coverage, meeting various connectivity needs, whether at home, in the office, or on the move.

✔ From fibre to 5G, all components are in place to make connectivity a real asset in Moka.
