A mini-forest was inaugurated on 15 November 2023 in Telfair as part of a Government initiative, which will infuse the city with a breath of fresh air. Learn more about this project, which aligns with Moka Smart City’s sustainable development strategy and will enhance its natural landscape.

The essence of the initiative is to plant three trees for every one that is cut down, contributing to the island’s reforestation. Moka Smart City proudly supports the Government in this virtuous endeavour and has offered a land plot in Telfair. In this first phase of 9-arpent, some 8,000 endemic trees including 1,000 from Moka Smart City’s nursery, will be planted, featuring 40 selected plant species. The RDA will initially maintain the land for six months before the smart city takes over.

Why stop there?

Inspired by this, Moka Smart City plans to extend the project over two additional phases, encompassing an extra 12.6 arpents in the Telfair neighbourhood. The vibrant heart of Moka will dedicate a total of 23.4 arpents to this miniforest. A health trail under consideration within this natural space to offer smart city residents and users an opportunity to enjoy it and learn about the planted tree species through informational panels. In the Helvétia neighbourhood, a number of trees will be planted in the forthcoming 10arpent Martial Noël Park, expanding the total area of natural spaces to 33.4 arpents.
