A special event will take place at the Telfair Amphitheatre from 7pm to 9pm on Monday 11 March 2024. Moka Smart City will celebrate Mauritian cinema and talent for the National Day. And there is no better flag bearer for this promising industry than the filmmaker David Constantin. His most recent feature film, Simin Zetwal (Gazing at Stars) awaits movie-goers of all ages for an adventure-filled evening.

Simin Zetwal, an exciting and deep storyline

Featuring rising talent of Mauritian and African cinema such as Edeen Bhugeloo (known for his roles in the South African comedy, Kandasamys: the Baby and the murder mystery film, The Blue Penny), this moving film is set against the backdrop of an evening odyssey. Are you a little curious? Here is a sneak peek into the film’s plot.

Bolom is an old man who has disappeared from a working-class housing settlement in Mauritius. While his son Ronaldo is looking for him, he comes across Ajeya, an Indian immigrant worker. His dream is to lead the life of a golden boy, all she wants is to escape her life as a modern-day slave. Together, their night-crossing of the island takes on a new dimension, halfway between a mystical quest and a search for freedom. Ronaldo is confronted with the multiple facets of his own personality and of the island. Will he listen to his smartphone or trust Ajeya, who tells him about the stars? Will he let his quest for material wealth take over or follow the spiritual quest that lies ahead of him?
